Modern retro living space

I am finally getting my lounge decorated! I have been saving up for quite some time, in order to be able to afford to get it done and I’m so excited about the prospect of sitting in a room with newly painted walls, a luxurious carpet, new furniture and soft furnishings. Hurray!!

I love the retro look, as well as some modern pieces and my lounge will have a fusion of both. For example, I have an original 1960’s Ladderax unit and sideboard and I will be contrasting the retro feel with contemporary chairs and soft furnishings; the curtains & cushions. My lounge is actually a combined lounge and dining area, so I will have a dining table in the room too.

I want to share with you a moodboard showing my ideas for a modern retro living space. I’ve shown some existing pieces that I have, as well as new furniture that will look great together. I created this to help me decide on colours, textures and materials that I want to include in the decorating. I’m just super excited!!

The colour scheme is mainly red and pale blue (my favourite colour combination!) with accents of charcoal grey, ecru, deep red, tangerine and a green-yellow shade. I chose these colours because I love the contrasts of the bright red with the cool blue. My mahogany sofa is red and I wanted a colour scheme to compliment it perfectly. The other tertiary colours will be added here and there, within the textiles and home accessories.

I have chosen pale coloured walls and curtains so the furniture and decorative pieces will stand out. These will be the ladderax unit, sideboard, mahogany leather sofa, cushions, lighting and patterned wall feature.

The lounge will have a feature wall displaying decorative plates. I love some of the ceramic plate designs on the market at the moment and these will fit in well within the dining area too.

In a not-too-distant future blog post, I will show you my newly decorated, modern retro living space, including where I bought the items. Until then, I’m going to enjoy collating all the things needed for this room and I hope this moodboard inspires you!  😀

Do you like retro furniture? What do you think of the colour theme and other items I’ve selected for this modern retro living space?
