Neil, Yasmin and I have just got back from a lovely weekend break in the Lakes (The Lake District, in England). It was pouring with rain, when we first got there, on Friday and I will admit that I wasn’t too pleased! However, the weather steadily improved throughout the following day, and by Saturday afternoon, it was glorious. Hurray! I do feel, for me especially, that a bit of sunshine greatly improves my mood and outlook. I love the colours, in particular the arrangement of greens on the hills, when the sun is bathing them in its light. They’re so fresh, and at the same time, calming.
We loved walking around Windermere and Bowness, on Saturday morning and early afternoon, before lunch, we took a boat ride around the lake. Later, we took a bus into Grasmere, where we bought quite a few pieces of their scrummy gingerbread. In the evening, we watched a film at the cinema near Bowness. It has the teeniest cinema screen I’ve ever seen. It is about three metres across – so tiny! – with a satin, ruched curtain and sits 65 people. During the interval, you can buy ice-cream from a lady who comes in and stands at the front. Now that’s a bit of nostalgia for you!
Here are a few snap-shots taken from our weekend break in the Lakes.
Weekend break in the Lakes
Over the summer holidays, I hadn’t spent much quality time with Yasmin, due to working during the week, so some family time was lovely (and needed). I took Yasmin away to the Lake District last September and, we decided it that all three of us would go this year. We had such a fabulous time and didn’t want to come home.
